“We have a West High School student who needed some additional support during her Sophomore and Junior years with math and Spanish. She's the type of student who willingly does the work while openly admitting to “not loving school”. Before Sophomore year, we knew that Geometry would be a struggle based upon past math challenges. We signed her up at The Prep Center in hopes of helping her with individual tutoring to help review the concepts she wasn't grasping in class. It was a game changer for her, and us. She immediately connected with her tutor, who was a former West student currently at the UW, who could connect with her about not just math, but the overall experience of going to high school. She provided our student with help in both math and also with planning out strategies for improving her approach to class time and work. Simply put, our student went from dreading us talking about Geometry, to planning what she wanted to do at tutoring that week, and happily making the trip down to the Prep Center to meet with her tutor.

“Junior year was even better! We started the year with our student working on Spanish, a class that we felt she might need help with given the poor foundation laid by previous classes at West. Our tutor was phenomenal! As much success as our student had during her Sophomore year, and as great as that tutor was at working with her, we never could have imagined a tutor making this kind of connection. We expected our student to struggle with Spanish, which happened out of the gate, but her tutor worked with her to not only improve her grade, but also to build her own strategies for success. In fact, Spanish was going so well, that we switched her focus during her second semester back to her math class to help improve that grade as well. We knew we could do this partially because of the phenomenal communication we received from the tutor, seriously the best follow-ups and information about our student that we had ever received.

“That math class was a struggle for our student, she knew it, we knew it. So we reached out mid second semester to Emily, the owner of The Prep Center, and asked if there was anyway to get more time with a tutor. When it was clear that our tutor's schedule was booked, Emily herself stepped up to offer us a second tutoring session every week. Between the tutor and Emily, we received almost weekly updates with suggestions of things we could do at home to offer support. It was a push to the end of the year, but despite her struggles, our student got through her Junior year of math.

“She, and we, could not have done this without the support, guidance, and tutoring from The Prep Center. For a student who is not an overachiever, The Prep Center proved the perfect place to help her develop academic skills that will help her when she moves forward into classes that she, simply put, is more interested in studying. Emily and her tutors have all been great communicators, keeping us in the loop and helping us make the best decisions for our student. A++++++”
